In 2005, Nick Kemp built a CEA Chamber to grow fresh sprouted feed. He supplied approximately 2 tons of fresh fodder per day to Pontinello Melkery, which was feeding 110 dairy cows. Over the following year, the dairy recorded more than a 10% increase in both milk production and butterfat, with lower feed costs and reduced reliance on trucked-in concentrates.
Neighbouring farmers noticed too, and soon asked for the same fresh feed for their own herds and flocks. Every farm that switched saw similar results, and what started as one chamber grew into a proper business.
Today, that track record sits behind Green2Gro's Fodder-as-a-Service: the same fresh, enzyme-rich feed, delivered daily as a fully funded, contracted service to commercial farms across South Africa.
